The atypical 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Hesperides (50% Grenache, 30% Mourvedre aged in cement tank and 20% Syrah aged in new oak) reveals lots of sauteed mushroom, roast beef, bouquet garni and tree bark-like notes. It is hard to envision what this black, brooding wine might turn out to be in 5-10 years, when it is fully mature.

Eric Bonnet at Domaine La Bastide Saint Dominique learned winemaking in Burgundy and it really shows in the lovely wines he crafts at family's domaine. Today Bonnet, with his parents, Gerard and Marie-Claude, and his wife Julie Moro, work together at La Bastide Saint Dominique, fashioning some of the best values in the Rhone.
