The 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape exhibits sweet blackberry and black currant fruit intermixed with notions of cherry jam, licorice, incense, truffles and underbrush. Fresh, elegant, medium to full-bodied, pure and long, it should drink well for at least 10-12 years.
Details
Eric Bonnet at Domaine La Bastide Saint Dominique learned winemaking in Burgundy and it really shows in the lovely wines he crafts at La Bastide Saint Dominique, the Domaine his family purchased over 30 years ago. Today Bonnet, with his parents, Gerard and Marie-Claude, and his wife Julie Moro, work together at Bastide Saint Dominique, fashioning some of the best values in the Rhone.
The 2010 Domaine La Bastide Saint Dominique Chateauneuf du Pape Rouge is a blend of 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 5% Mourvedre and 5% Cinsault aged entirely in tank (as most of the wines at La Bastide Saint Dominique are). A fantastic value in Chateauneuf, La Bastide Saint Dominque's wines are also delightful when young but capable of cellaring for up to a decade.
