| This Week's Tasting On Friday, July 30, 2010 Will Feature: |
2009 Piuquenes Chardonnay – Argentina |
Weemala is both an aboriginal word for ’good view’ and the name of this New South Wales (the southeastern Aussie state containing Sydney) vineyard. The 2008 Pinot Gris is white gold in color, and has a mandarin, melon, and pear aroma with flavors of spicy quince and lemon, before a long finish. |
|
2007 Sierra Cruz Chardonnay – Chile |
Pale gold, hints of green, good aromatics Peach, pear on the nose. Fresh, clean fruit flavors in the mouth - good acidity and balance. Medium long, clean finish. |
|
2005 B Cellars B24 Blend – California |
The 2005 Blend 24 (43% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 30% Sangiovese, and 7% Petite Sirah) exhibits a deep ruby/purple color, a big, sweet kiss of black currants, smoky oak, and a touch of forest floor, followed by a heady, full-bodied, rich style with good acidity as well as sweet tannins. Only one-third new oak is used, so the fruit dominates. Drink it over the next 3-4 years. This relatively new producer’s debut vintage was 2003, but these are the first wines I have tasted from B Cellars. Proprietors Jim Borsack and Duffy Keys have hired Kirk Venge as their consulting winemaker, and the wines are clearly made in a fruit-forward style that should satisfy consumers and restaurants looking for immediate drinkability. Two of their flagship wines are their Blend 24 and Blend 25. The Blend 24 is normally dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, with some Merlot, followed by Sangiovese and Petite Sirah. The Blend 25 is usually a two varietal blend of two-thirds Cabernet Sauvignon and one-third Syrah. The third blend, the Blend 26, is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from three vineyard sites. Two-thirds come from the Stagecoach Vineyard above the Silverado Trail, 23% from the To-Kalon Vineyard in Oakville, and 11% from the Dr. Crane Vineyard in St. Helena." -91 points Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate |

2004 Antis Reserve Malbec - Argentina |
Intense ruby-purple color and deep aromas of ripe plum and berries. In the mouth, it is full bodied and shows a solid modern style with a complex structure which runs through the persistent finish. It is a very well balanced wine with supple, sweet tannins. |
|
2006 Luigi Bosca Reserva Malbec - Argentina |
With deep ruby red color, this wine displays ripe red berries, spice and black pepper aromas. Its intense initial taste is complemented by the softness and sweetness of its tannins. It is a wine with a great body and structure.
Best paired with roast or grilled red meat, venison and hard cheeses. – Winery Notes
