This Week's Tasting On Friday, May 2, 2008 Will Feature:

2007 Bidoli Pinot Grigio - Friuli, Italy

Pear and apple aromas dominate the nose which echoes the lively tangy freshness of the well balanced palate. The wine is generously fruited with a silky texture. The complexity is further enhanced with a nerve of minerality and highlighted with refreshing acidity and good length

2006 Mikael Bouges Touraine Sauvignon Blanc - Loire Valley, France

The bouquet of the wine is of apricot, melon and citrus. The combination of lime, herbs and minerals explode in the mouth -- this is amazing -- dry and juicy and concentrated yet refreshing. Wow, I bet this would be incredible with a fresh slab of pan-roasted red snapper topped with a squeeze of fresh lime juice.

2006 R Wines Evil Cabernet Sauvignon - South Eastern Australia

It reveals a fragrant bouquet of cedar and black currants. Fruit-driven, full-bodied, with tons of flavor, this Cabernet is an exceptional value. It will provide pleasure over the next 6-8 years. R Wines is a new company founded by importer and marketing genius, Dan Philips, along with co-owner, renowned winemaker, Chris Ringland.

2004 Castello di Magione Carpaneto - Umbria, Italy

An ancient property owned by the Sovereign Military Order of Malta. Soils in the Carpaneto vineyard are clayey and fossil ferrous, ideal for wines. The south-west exposure promotes fruit maturation. A unique blend of 50% Sangiovese, 20% Merlot and 10% Gamay, It was 100% French oak aged for a certain mellowness not often found in these wines. This wine is quite fully extracted and complex for the price. It has black fruits with smoked meat and fennel in its ambiance. Mouth filling, yet smooth and well suited to roasted peppers or tomato based dishes or roasted meats and pasta with rich ragout.

2005 Trevor Jones Shiraz ‘Boots’ - Barossa, Australia

Dark windfall mulberries, fresh black cracked pepper, ripe plum, dark chocolate, and stewed nectarine. These fruit flavors evenly fill the palate with richness and fullness. Balanced acidity and soft velvety chewy tannins extended the persistence of the finish. This wine would be best served with grilled red meats and strong flavored cheeses.

2005 Callejo 4 Meses en Barrica - Ribera del Duero, Spain

A beautiful red cherry color meets the eye. Intense, ripe red berries with a hint of chocolate and exotic spices. It is a full bodied red to be sure made from 100% Tempranillo (locally called Tinto Fino). It shows round firm tannins that are balanced, dark fruits with a hint of orange zest. A long firm finish ensues with more spice and warm minerals. Elegant and supple to be enjoyed now with grilled meats, roasted baby pig is the local specialty, dry cheeses like Manchego, and Mahon.
